We all know the frustration of a slow loading webpage or the disbelief when your internet goes down.
Well, if you take a few minutes and watch this video, "The Internet: Wires, Cables, Wi-fi," I think you will have at least a tiny bit more patience in those situations. The video is the first in a six video series, each of which is around six minutes long. It is put together by Code.org and they brought together experts from companies like Google and Spotify as well as one of the founders of the internet (not Al Gore) to inform regular folks on how the internet works...in language that we can understand.
The whole series is great but even just watching the first video should be enough to get your mind thinking about the incredible feats that technology can make possible. Downloading that picture sent from a friend thousands of miles away in a second or two, or having a live video conversation with another class on the other side of the planet will be a little bit more incredible now.
Whether it is for personal viewing, for showing to a class of students or for showing to your kids (I know my daughter is going to LOVE these videos), I give these videos two thumbs up.
