I thought since this is my first year in a new role it would be a good idea to introduce myself to people that may not know who I am. Which could definitely be the shortest entry ever housed on this site. So I thought about it and where to start...I guess it all started when I was 2 years old and...wait all that stuff is probably not relevant. So getting back to the question at hand, who am I? Well let's start with my choice of colleges. I am a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa where I majored in Elementary Education and Middle School Education. I later went on to get master's at UNI in Educational Technology. Northern Iowa not only allowed me to get a great education, but it is also where I met my wife, Tara. I started my professional journey in my hometown of Denison, Iowa where I taught 4th and 5th grade for 10 years along with coaching. In 2006 we moved our family to Des Moines and both started at Goodrell Middle School where I taught 7th grade science. In my run at Goodrell I taught 7th and 8th grade science, physical education, and computers for 8 years. I then took my skills to Harding Middle School for one where I taught 7th grade science. I love to challenge kids in unique ways through the use of science labs and technology. As you can see from the video I will try anything, think one of Newton's Laws.
Personally, my family lives in Altoona where we have 4 boys. The oldest will graduate high school this year. (Wow, how time has flown). The other three boys are in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade and even though they are a year apart it is like having a set of triplets running around our house and they keep us running around to all their activities, the favorite one being baseball. When I say baseball is one of their favorite sports I am serious (it is probably mine as well). We start in the Middle of January and do not stop until the last few weeks of July. Each one of my sons are on different teams and I coach at Southeast Polk. I have been a part of that program for 9 years with the last 2 finishing is state championships.
