The large issue in my general music classroom is access for students to personally record and assess their learning through standard reference grading. By using the app Seesaw, students will be able to frequently access the learning targets for each music class, and accurately assess their musical evidence related to the grade level SRG goals. Using devices, students will be able to use multi-media modes of pictures, video, audio and writing to communicate their understanding and show connections to their grade appropriate learning targets. When students have devices to record and demonstrate their learning, assess their data within the SRG framework and post to me for communication and feedback, the music classroom becomes innovative and student centered.
Currently this is not a common practice in music education, and there is no educator in the state of Iowa that is using devices to connect student learning to the SRG framework. When students are allowed access to devices, students will then start documenting their learning using modes of writing, video recording, audio recording and pictures to assess their development towards the given SRG targets, for each music unit.
